All the Tales series games are linked, their storylines jumbled up by a time machine. The two main characters can change their "Narikiri" costumes to enable different abilities.
Zelos's specific role in the game is unclear to me at present, although it may be quite small, since there are around thirty Tales characters involved! I do plan to play this game soon and expand this section when I encounter Zelos.
